Celebrating the Life of Magdaleno "Leno" Rose-Avila

Homies Unidos’s family is mourning the passing of our beloved Magdaleno Leno Rose-Avila. We are heartbroken for all the #homies whose lives he touched. As one of the founders for #homiesunidos in El Salvador and Los Angeles, Magdaleno believe in the possibility of a world without violence which he said and became Homies Unidos’ slogan.

He believed in people like Alex Sanchez who was fighting against all the odds to get a second opportunity in life. Magdaleno was able to guide people to see their better selves and believe the capacity they had to change and make a difference in our world.

When Magdaleno took Alex to Santa Cruz with SantaCruz BarriosUnidos in 1996, Alex was exposed to many other system impacted people that were now being part of the solution. He came back inspired and ready to pick up the baton. All Magdaleno I did was believed in him.

Homies Unidos would not have existed without Magdaleno. We are here and will take on his vision to believe in the possibility of a world without violence.

We welcome you all in celebrating the life of Magdaleno with family and friends July 10th.
