Meet Luana Lopez Franco
My name is Luana, though most people know me as Lulu. I’m a proud first-generation college student and the daughter of two hardworking immigrant parents. Being raised in a community that has faced many challenges has shaped me into who I am today and inspired me to work toward creating positive change in my community.
Even though I’ve been through a lot in my life, I’ve been lucky to have amazing people around me who always reminded me to stay strong and not break down in the middle of my battles. I’m passionate about giving back, supporting others, and being part of spaces that uplift and empower people to grow. I want to be part of the change that opens new doors for the next generation, especially for those growing up in poverty and in communities with limited opportunities. I want to give the support and opportunities I was given in my hardest times.
Lulu has been a participant and volunteer for Homies Unidos for the last two years. She has helped in organizing our annual Central American Youth Leadership conference for immigrant students.
She played a central role in bringing her mother back home after she was kidnapped by ICE this summer. She is now attending California State University, Northridge.
